THE SHORT ANSWER

What is the East Africa
Tourist Visa?

The East Africa Tourist Visa is a joint tourism visa for Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. Its published validity is 90 days, with repeat travel inside the participating area. It does not permit employment.

Your issuing country must match your first country of entry. If you start in Kenya, check the current authorisation route first: its regional eTA is currently marked “coming soon”.

YOUR UGANDA-FIRST CHECKLIST

Start with the country you arrive in.

Uganda-issued East Africa Tourist Visa

For a Uganda-first tourist itinerary, review Uganda’s East African Tourist Visa route. The country issuing the visa must be your first point of entry. Check nationality-specific conditions before applying.

  • Passport biodata page; at least six months of passport validity
  • A recent passport-size photograph
  • Return ticket and travel itinerary
  • English-language documents; additional evidence if requested

Our regional visa package is US$199 per applicant, including the US$100 government fee and US$99 application assistance. No payment is collected in this preview.

PREPARE THE RIGHT FILES

East Africa Tourist
Visa requirements.

Start with the issuing country’s checklist. A general regional document list cannot replace the requirements for the exact permission you need.

Check before uploading.
Names, dates, image quality and file limits matter.

01 /

Passport & photograph

Prepare a clear passport biodata scan and recent photograph. Check the required validity, background, file type and size with the issuing authority.

02 /

Travel dates & first entry

Keep the arrival country, tickets and itinerary consistent. Uganda’s list includes a return ticket and itinerary.

03 /

Country-specific attachments

Follow the selected authority’s live category. Uganda’s October entry notice updates the older checklist; Rwanda’s attachments vary by visa type.

04 /

Your individual circumstances

Confirm passport-based conditions, any exemptions, travel purpose and additional evidence requested by immigration.

CHECK THE LIMITS BEFORE YOU APPLY

Does the regional visa
fit your itinerary?

01

Tourism in two or three participating countries

Check the regional route against your first entry, passport and the current issuing-country rules.

02

Tanzania or Zanzibar on the same trip

These are outside the arrangement. Check separate permissions and fresh entry requirements for returning to the region.

03

Work, business or another purpose

The regional tourist visa does not authorise employment. Ask immigration which permission fits your actual travel purpose.

Check the sources
What is the East Africa Tourist Visa?

The East Africa Tourist Visa is a joint tourism permission for Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. It has a published 90-day validity and allows repeat travel within those three countries. It does not permit employment. Match the issuing country to your first arrival and confirm the route currently available there.

Rwanda Immigration ↗
How much does the East Africa Tourist Visa cost?

The published regional government fee is US$100. Our private assistance package totals US$199 per applicant, including that government fee and US$99 for assistance. You can apply directly through the official government route without purchasing our assistance. This preview takes no payment.

Rwanda Immigration ↗
Which country should I apply through?

Use the country where you first enter the participating area. An arrival in Entebbe points to Uganda; an arrival in Kigali points to Rwanda. For a Kenya-first itinerary, check the current eTA and onward-country requirements before choosing a regional product.

Uganda Immigration ↗
Can I apply for an East Africa Tourist Visa through Kenya?

Kenya’s official eligibility page currently labels its East African Tourist eTA as “coming soon”. Do not assume that a Kenya-issued regional authorisation is available to buy. Check the Kenya permission or exemption for your passport and the permissions needed for onward Uganda and Rwanda travel.

Kenya eTA ↗
What documents do I need?

Uganda lists a passport biodata page, recent photo, return ticket and itinerary. Rwanda’s attachments vary by visa type. Uganda’s notice dated 2 October 2026 says a yellow fever vaccination certificate is no longer mandatory for entry. Its older regional-visa checklist still lists the certificate. Check the current portal and ask immigration to resolve any conflicting upload request. This entry-document notice is not medical advice or a rule for other destinations.

Uganda Immigration · October entry update ↗
How long is the East Africa Tourist Visa valid?

The published validity is 90 days. Check the dates and conditions on the permission actually issued to you. Do not treat the regional visa as an automatic new 90-day stay at every border crossing.

Rwanda Immigration ↗
Does it cover Tanzania or Zanzibar?

No. The arrangement covers Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. Tanzania, including Zanzibar, is outside it. Check separate entry requirements for any other country on your itinerary.

Uganda Immigration ↗
Can I leave the region and return using the same visa?

Do not plan to reuse it after leaving the three-country area. Uganda’s regional guidance says the visa is not renewable after expiry or exit from the bloc. An itinerary with an outside stop needs a fresh check of the permissions for returning.

Uganda Immigration ↗
Do I need a regional visa for a one-country trip?

A regional product may be unnecessary if you are visiting only one country. Compare the destination’s national entry rules and passport-based exemptions before paying. A national visa, an eTA and the regional tourist visa are different permissions.

How long does processing take?

There is no guaranteed time shared by all routes. Uganda’s Washington embassy gives general guidance of 2–3 working days, with exceptions, and advises applying at least five working days before travel. IremboGov’s general visa service lists four days. Confirm the exact category and allow time for extra checks.
